If you have reached this site from a link on your ReadyNAS Resource CD, welcome!

RAIDar is a discovery tool used to locate your ReadyNAS on your network so that you can begin to configure your ReadyNAS as quickly as possible.  First, you’ll need to download RAIDar.  Select the appropriate download link based on the operating system you will install RAIDar on.

Download RAIDar for Windows
Download RAIDar for Mac

Download RAIDar for RedHat Linux (rpm)

Download RAIDar for Other Linux (sh)

Once you’ve downloaded and installed RAIDar, start it up.  You’ll see something like this:Just click on Setup to start the FrontView web-based management interface for the ReadyNAS.  Because this will be the first time accessing the ReadyNAS, you will get a security exception warning from your browser.  An example from FireFox looks like this:

This is expected due to the fact that a temporary SSL certificate is used on the ReadyNAS.  Just accept the exception, and you will get a login prompt.

Enter admin for user name and netgear1 for password (you will have the opportunity to change the password once you’ve logged in and run the FrontView Setup Wizard).  You’ll see the FrontView welcome page as follows:

The FrontView Setup Wizard Home page displays the basic settings and status of your ReadyNAS.  Although you can choose to
skip the Setup Wizard, we strongly advise that you use this process to ensure all necessary settings are correctly defined, especially if this is your first experience with the ReadyNAS.

Click Next to proceed. The Setup Wizard will guide you through the basic configuration and file sharing setup process. At each page you can either specify your own settings or accept the pre-configured default settings for the following:

  • Time and date
  • Alert notification contact email addresses
  • Network settings
  • Hostname
  • New admin password
  • Initial user and group accounts
  • Initial shares. Note that the ReadyNAS comes with two pre-configured shares: backup and media

At the end of the Setup Wizard process, please register your ReadyNAS.  Registration allows NETGEAR to inform you of important updates, security advisory notices, and allows for easier support and warranty handling.  After registration, FrontView defaults to the Advanced Control mode, where you can make desired changes by selecting options directly from the menu on the left.

For more information on accessing your shares and advanced configuration options for your ReadyNAS, please refer to the manuals available for download at http://www.readynas.com/documentation.
