Just released — RAIDiator 4.1.3
September 11, 2008
NETGEAR is pleased to announce the release of RAIDiator 4.1.3, an update to the RAIDiator 4.01c1-p1 (non-Duo) and 4.01c1-p2 (Duo) firmware for the ReadyNAS network attached storage product lines. As you may have noticed, we’ve simplified the RAIDiator version numbering — 4.1.3 is equivalent to 4.01c1-p3 in the old numbering scheme.
This release will work with ReadyNAS 600, X6, 1000S, 1100, NV, NV+, and Duo, and can be updated easily from FrontView. The simplest way to update is to use the System/Update/Remote tab in Frontview. If you prefer, you can choose to do a local update by first downloading the new image here: RAIDiator-4.1.3. We recommend that you update your ReadyNAS to this latest RAIDiator release unless you are affected by the limitations noted at the bottom of this announcement. Please do keep in mind that once you upgrade from RAIDiator 3.x or earlier, you will not be able to revert back to anything prior to RAIDiator 4 without reformatting your ReadyNAS.
The following are changes since RAIDiator 4.01c1-p2.
New Features
- Added option to UPnP A/V streaming service option to update its database whenever a new file has been added, removed, or changed in the media share.
- Added support for MGE and TrippLite UPS.
- Added advanced AFP permission option to allow for more advanced umask settings as requested by our Mac users.
- Close FTP login connection after two failed attempts for improved security.
- Added support for FrontView add-ons through the FrontView SDK.
- Replaced SlimServer with SqueezeCenter 7.2. The latest SqueezeCenter supports the new SqueezeBox Boom.
- Added option to use experimental fast scanner for SqueezeCenter.
- Added support for Flex-RAID mode for the ReadyNAS Duo. In Flex-RAID mode, the Duo can be configured as RAID 0 or 1, up to two volumes (i.e. you can have two RAID 0 volumes each consisting of one disk, ala JBOD). To switch to Flex-RAID mode, you will need to factory default the box (make sure to backup your data), and during a span of 10 minutes after booting, click Setup in RAIDar to bring up the X-RAID/Flex-RAID selection box. Keep in mind that the Duo does not support snapshots, so ignore the snapshot option in RAIDar.
- Allow user names to start with a number as requested.
- Allow characters such as ‘&’ and ‘%’ in BitTorrent and UPnP A/V folder names.
- Added SNMP alerts for disk SMART warnings.
- Enhanced snapshot resizing so that it can be done on absolute size instead of percentage of volume space.
Bug fixes
- Improved handling of backup job cancellation.
- Fixed security holes with OpenSSL, Samba, and FrontView.
- Fixed interoperability with Windows 2008 domains.
- Changed Auto-copy flash content to match parent folder permission.
- Fixed remote CIFS backup source/destination share mounting to work more reliably.
- Enhanced disk spin-down times.
- Fixed potential infinite shutdown issue immediately after bootup.
- Fixed problem where Backup Manager incorrectly treated snapshots as non-existent shares.
- Improved Active Directory support in FrontView.
- Fixed problem where rebooting could remove all share user restrictions if the domain controller could not be contacted within 5 minutes.
- Improved stability of ReadyNAS Photos.
- Fixed New Caledonia time zone.
Limitations
- Under Safari 3, if you change the admin password in Frontview, you will see a blank window. Simply close the browser, and use RAIDar Setup button to reconnect to the ReadyNAS. You will not see this problem with Safari 2.
- Network wireless PCI and USB devices are not supported in this release. If you need this support, please do not update to the RAIDiator 4 release. Keep in mind that if you need wireless support, you can connect the ReadyNAS to a wireless router (majority of people do this) or a wireless bridge.
- In Share security mode, if you have specified a share password, you will not be able to access this share under Vista unless you follow the workaround here.
- In Share security mode, if you have specified a password for the media share, ReadyNAS Photos will connect to the ReadyNAS only if Username is left blank, and you specify the share password.
