BitTorrent is a peer-to-peer protocol for sharing files among multiple people. As more people start downloading a file, the download speeds become faster instead of slower. RAIDiator 4.01 now includes a BitTorrent Download Manager to let you queue up downloads without leaving your PC/Mac on.

The main thing you need to get started is a .torrent file. These files store specific information that is used to bootstrap the file download. For this intro, we are going to download a Debian Linux CD Image.

Step 1: Enable the BitTorrent service from FrontView

Simply activate BitTorrent from the FrontView management interface (the option is in the Services/Installed Addons tab).

Here you can also specify which folder on your ReadyNAS to save all your downloads.

Step 2: Load the BitTorrent Download Manager

After you have activated the BitTorrent service, click on the Start Download Manager button.

Step 3: Find a .torrent to download

In this example, we are going to head to http://www.debian.org/CD/torrent-cd/ and download a CD image.

We are simply copying the URL to the .torrent file, and taking that to our download manager.

Step 4: Download our file

Back in the Download Manager, paste in the URL from above to the Add Torrent From URL box, and click Add. It will instantly start your download.

Now just sit back and watch your files come flying in.

Head on over to BitTorrent.com for more torrent downloads.
