Setting up the ReadyNAS to be an iSCSI target
iSCSI target support is available on the ReadyNAS x86 business-class models starting with RAIDiator 4.2.3. Here’s how you can quickly set up an iSCSI target on the ReadyNAS and access it from your Windows or Mac clients.
First, you need to enable iSCSI service and create an iSCSI target in FrontView. This is a pretty easy 2-step process.
Step 1: Enable iSCSI service
Select the Enable iSCSI support checkbox in the iSCSI tab of the Volume page and click Apply.
Step 2: Create the iSCSI target
Click the Create iSCSI Target button, and enter the desired name of the target and the capacity you wish to reserve for this target device. Maximum capacity is slightly less than the full free space on the ReadyNAS or 2 TB, whichever is less. If you wish to enable authentication for access, enable CHAP authentication and specify the user name and password. Please keep in mind that password needs to be at least 12 characters long.
Click Create to proceed with creating the iSCSI target. You’ll see the allocation status as the space is being reserved on the ReadyNAS. When complete, you’ll get a notification in FrontView.
Now to access the iSCSI target from your computer…
