RAIDiator 4.00c1-p2 Release Notes

NETGEAR is pleased to release the 2nd update to the RAIDiator 4 firmware for the ReadyNAS network attached storage product line. The latest firmware will work with all preceding ReadyNAS products and can be updated easily from the FrontView System/Update/Remote tab. If you prefer, you can choose to do a local update by first downloading the new image here: RAIDiator-4.00c1-p2

RAIDiator 4 contains a number of bug fixes along with security and feature enhancements over the 3.01 release. We recommend that you update your ReadyNAS to this latest RAIDiator release unless you are affected by the limitations stated at the bottom of this announcement. Please do keep in mind that once you upgrade to RAIDiator 4, you cannot revert back.

The following consists of major changes from 3.01:

Large Data Volume Support
• Data volume size greater than 2TB is now supported. With this update, the ReadyNAS will fully utilize all space on 750GB and greater capacity drives. Existing X-RAID systems utilizing 750GB will not automatically expand – you will need to use an add-on ForceExpansion to reclaim the extra 40GB of space beyond the previous pre-RAIDiator 4.0 2TB limitation. Note that if you will be using 1TB drives, make sure to check the Hard Disk Compatibility List.

Enhanced Share Support
• NFS over TCP is now supported, providing enhanced data integrity and better performance.
• Home shares are now accessible over NFS. Keep in mind that user home shares are created on first access via CIFS.
• Data volumes are now available over CIFS as share "c", "d", etc. to the admin user. This allows the admin user to backup entire volumes, including the private user home shares using a single share.

Online X-RAID Volume Expansion
• Online X-RAID volume expansion. There’s no longer a need to reboot the ReadyNAS when adding new drives to expand the volume capacity. Volume expansion will kick off after drive initialization and you will see the capacity grow dynamically as the volume is expanded. This is useful in environments where down-time must be avoided. Requirement for online expansion – must have factory defaulted with RAIDiator 4, journaling enabled, and must not have an active snapshot.

Enhanced Integrated Backup
• Root of data volumes can now be accessed by the admin user for easier volume-wide backups.
• Better USB storage device compatibility and faster performance.
• Backups can now specify a specific USB port for the storage device. This allows rotation of storage device for backups for enhanced off-site archiving.
• NTFS support on USB storage devices.

Enhanced UPS Support
• Network UPS. You can now specify the ReadyNAS as a network UPS server for other ReadyNAS systems so that battery-low graceful shutdown can occur with multiple ReadyNAS systems sharing the same UPS. Simply designate one ReadyNAS as the UPS server in the System/Power Management tab and specify others to utilize this ReadyNAS for power failure signal.
• The UPS battery level shutdown threshold time can now be specified.

Enhanced Windows Domain/ADS Support
• The ReadyNAS can now join into a Windows domain using a login with domain joining rights; there’s no longer a need to have domain administrator privilege.
• The ReadyNAS can now be limited to a single Organizational Unit (OU) in a ADS environment. This allows the ReadyNAS to work more efficiently in larger domain environments.

Better Media Streaming Support
• Embedded UPnP AV service now supports streaming to Xbox360 and PS3, virtual folders, and audio metadata.

FrontView Enhancements
• Quicker responses no longer needing page refresh.
• FrontView now supports English, German, French, Japanese, Chinese, and Korean.

Scanning Support
• The ReadyNAS can now support both printing and scanning operations from a HP OfficeJet.

System Configuration Backup and Restore Support
• The ReadyNAS system configuration can now be backed. The configuration can be restored in case of inadvertent changes or can be used to duplicate onto multiple ReadyNAS.

SSH Support
• Remote SSH for Support is disabled by default. If you wish to enable SSH access for Support, you’ll need to install the ToggleSSH add-on.
• Root SSH support. With the EnableRootSSH add-on, you can now remote login to the ReadyNAS RAIDiator shell as a root user. Initial password for root will be the same as the current FrontView admin password. Please keep in mind that NETGEAR may deny support if you’ve enabled root access.

SNMP Support
• Changed Infrant MIB OID to NETGEAR MIB OID.
• Fixed memory leak that existed in RAIDiator 3.01.


Notice
• Default admin password for Frontview is now netgear1.

Limitations
• Opera browser will not work with FrontView.
• Network PCI and USB devices are not supported in this release. We will come out with an update that will support this at a later time. If you need this support, please do not update to the RAIDiator 4 release. Keep in mind that if you need wireless support, you can connect the ReadyNAS to a wireless router or a wireless bridge.
• Existing USB drives may be named differently upon upgrade. This may affect existing backups to USB shares. If name conflict arises, you can use the Clean_USB_Storage addon.
