3100 VMWare Backup/Sync

3100 VMWare Backup/Sync

Postby jamiedallow » Tue Jul 26, 2011 8:58 am

Hi All

Not sure if this is something that is do'able or not but here goes. I have 1 RN3100 and 1 RN2100 both of the same capacity. My aim is to use the 3100 as a live datastore for VMWare and have the 2100 as a 'live standby' so that if the 3100 falls over the 2100 carries on as if there was no problem. Is it possible to sync 2 RN's together and keep them both truely syncoronised. VM's are in addition to 200GB each so a full file backup isn't really an option, needs to be something that can run integently and delv into the VMWare files. If this isn't possible is it possible to sync the 200GB files over night from 1 to another? They will both be on the same network and connected at gbic.

Thanks all

Jamie

You might want to look into some network backup software designed for use with VMWare. I assume you're using ESX/ESXi?

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.
