Hello,

I am looking at purchasing the ReadyNAS RNDP6610 for following use :

1> Backup data from multiple servers running Windows,linux .
2> Central storage for vmware & Hyper-V

I came across this article which is a concern for the above point number 2>

Can some expert look at the issue discussed in the above article and provide some insight.

the iscsi on the pro will work with your esx / esxi alright,

but use it as backup, not work-horse.

if your panning on many high performance servers to be used in esx, you'll need fibre channel really

iscsi will work, but performance will be questionable, this does not only apply to the readynas pro,
this is iscsi in general with esx.

Anup, we're in the process of certifying our RAIDiator iSCSI target with VMware. We'll keep you posted on how it goes. There are numerous users running VMware over NFS here in the forums, which is another option you may want to consider.

It takes a long time. We are proceeding - but I'd say 60 days for listing in the VMware HCL.

I have done some playing around with the Beta releases of RAIDiator 4.2.3 on a ReadyNAS Pro Business edition and VMWare ESXi using iSCSI. I have not run into any issues so far. I don't use multiple VM Host Servers, I have only one machine with ESXi installed. I even provision separate iSCSI targets for each VMWare guest.

I'm VERY interested to see how this goes as I need to get a VM solution in place for software testing and environment replication for our clients. Like many software companies, budgets are tight for IT, so a ReadyNAS Pro filled with 1GB drives and 4GB RAM fits the bills nicely.

I'd be interested for feedback on how you have found performance

Rich
ReadyNAS Pro 6TB, 4.2.11 -> VMWare ESX3i (NFS)
ReadyNAS Pro 3TB, 4.2.11 -> Off-site backup repository (rsync over SSH)
ReadyNAS Pro 3TB, 4.2.11 -> Backup repository + File Server
* 4.2.13 sucks. :)
