Help = need this to work

Help = need this to work

Postby mdaoudi » Tue Feb 24, 2009 12:49 pm

hello
i have a ready nas pro (4 gig of ram on it)
6 * seagate 500 gb drives
configured as raid 0

i have 3 servers that need to write / read logs and one db server
Can the readynas pro act as central storage location for all these needs?
i am thinking of using iscsi to access all the volumes.

this is for our qa lab and do not want to buy a san.

Thank you in advance for all your help

are you sure you want a raid0? only one defective disk will cost you all your data.

ya.. raid5 will protect you against 1 disk-failure and still provide more than enough performance on the pro.

i would go with x-raid though instead of selecting flexraid and raid5. that way you have the option to expand to bigger disks if needed.

X-RAID2 gives best performance for larger sequential access request pattern, such as video streaming and editing. Performance over RAID 5 in large data transfer can be as much as 15-20% better. It also allows for easier expandability.

What is the advantage of using X-RAID over RAID 5?

When would it be appropriate to use RAID 5?

Thank you both.
Anything i should worry about if we want to use iscsi with either raid5 or the built in netgear raid?
thanks
