ReadyNAS NV+ as home directory

ReadyNAS NV+ as home directory

Postby otechcomputing » Fri Aug 14, 2009 8:45 am

I have a NV+ with latest firmware (as of today) and am having issues accessing the admin UNC Path (\\ip\admin \\<dns name>\admin) from WindowsXP SP2 - it used to always work. ::scratches head::
The NV+ is attached to Active Directory and pulls users & groups from that.
I know & have validated the AD Administrator's password is working by logging in to the DC with the credentials.

In addition, when attempting to access it from a Windows 7 Ultimate x86 Virtual Machine, it locks out any account (including Administrator) that you try to use it with - and no user/pass combination works.

Any reason why I can't get to the admin UNC path on XP? Which creds do I use?
Any reason why it's locking out accounts when trying to map/UNC to the path - and never succeeds in Windows7?

I'm the keeper of all things tech here, and this is the only AD-attached device that isn't allowing access.

Thanks!

And nothing shows up via "net use" from the command prompt? Any remembered connection(including a guest account connection) will prevent windows from using a 2nd login on the same server.

Nope, nothing.
I have always used IP for admin access & dns name for normal user use.
Code: Select all
C:\Windows\system32>net use
New connections will be remembered.

There are no entries in the list.

<EDIT>
To follow that, I get this:
Code: Select all
C:\Windows\system32>net use \\readynas\otechcomputing t:
System error 86 has occurred.

The specified network password is not correct.

C:\Windows\system32>

BUT - I can access any other share on the network just fine.

Weird.

Does any other share on the network, include other shares on the ReadyNAS? You can also specify the credentials in the net use command, "net help use" will give you the syntax.

You've got a syntax error. It should be:

Code: Select all
net use T: \\readynas\otechcomputing

You've got the drive letter specified after the share path.

(sorry for the delay)

I tried it with your way, but I'm suffering from the same fate:
Code: Select all
C:\Windows\system32>net use T: \\readynas\otechcomputing
Enter the user name for 'readynas': otechcomputing
Enter the password for readynas:
System error 86 has occurred.

The specified network password is not correct.

C:\Windows\system32>

Unfortunately, the password is correct.

Here's the breakdown as of right now.

WindowsXP - can't login to \\readynas\admin -- Not sure which credentials to use -- I've always used the Domain Administrator's info - but now it's not working
Windows7 - can't authenticate to my own (AD configured) readynas folder (same username on both). When I login to XP, it's there - when I login to 7, it's not; as my snip above shows, it just doesn't appear to be able to validate passwords.

Thoughts?

Did you change the NTLM security mode on the Windows 7 computer?

faq.php#Why_am_I_not_able_to_access_ReadyNAS_share_that_is_password_protected_with_Vista%3F

You can also explicitly specify the account to use when accessing the NAS from XP:

Code: Select all
net use T: \\readynas\otechcomputing /user:domain\administrator

By the way, do you have a username with the same name as a share (i.e. otechcomputing)?

High Friggin' Five. Thanks.

You can also explicitly specify the account to use when accessing the NAS from XP:

Again, High Friggin' Five. I used the IP to get to the Admin Share (then to get to 'c') as - to answer your question, yes, I do have a username with the same name as a share (so I don't have conflicting resources).

Thanks man, much appreciated.
