Custom rsync port badly needed

Postby jfm5440 » Tue Oct 25, 2011 8:56 am

If there is a feature request I could add it would be the ability to specify a custom rsync port. I have two rsync server hosts behind a NAT that I'd like to use port forwarding on.

Nothing there about ports as far as I see. What want is a remote readynas client to connect to two rsync servers. One a readynas running rsync on port 873 and another linux box running rsync listening on port 10873. Both of those servers are behind a NAT firewall so all I have is port forwarding to work with. (Also I can't tunnel over SSh because I'm running a readynas ultra)

Besides going in through SSH and doing it manually there's no way to specify ports for rsync in Frontview.

WhoCares? offers an rsync over SSH enabler at his website for a modest fee ($0.99 USD): http://readynasxtras.com/readynas-x86-a ... nabler-x86

That Rsync over SSH enabler is only needed for Ultra and Pioneer products (business models already have Rsync over SSH). So if someone comes across this thread who has a NVX (not Pioneer) or Pro (not Pioneer) or any of the rackmount units you don't need this add-on.

Rsync over SSH is rsync done securely over a SSH tunnel (i.e. port 22). Even with Rsync over SSH there'd still be some issues to consider.

If possible I think Rsync over a VPN would be your best solution.
