Your web hosting provider?

Postby 0zas » Tue Apr 20, 2010 11:26 am

I apologize for the possible off-topic. Guys, could you tell me which web hosting company you are using at the moment? I have a problem because my current web hosting company hostrator.com is kicking me off. They say that our website is using too many server resources. But our website only gets 300 visitors per day..

Anyway, what would be your recommendations? Are you happy with your web hosting providers?

I am checking http://www.hosting24.com/ at the moment, but is it real that they can provide unlimited disk space?
I have contacted them and they say something like "1000GB disk drive costs only $30 per month, so if some day we will start running out of disk space we will simply add a new 1000GB drive so can continue uploading..".

What do you think about it? Any ideas and web hosting company name suggestions are much appreciated.

I use HostGator.com for some personal websites (~10), but haven't had any issues with them, I guess my traffic is small enough.

I use nearlyfreespeech.net - they're slightly different from any other host I've used before, but for the last two years, I've totally been diggin' them. Only gotcha is they don't support ssl. Or at least they hadn't last I checked.

I've been using A Small Orange (ASO) http://asmallorange.com/ for over a year and I HIGHLY recommend them. They don't oversell their service so you can actually use the space and bandwidth that you're paying for. They have some very affordable plans, and their service is excellent. Currently their cheapest shared hosting plan is $25/year (=~$2/month).

A lot of my clients/customers find me through web searches and then coming to my website, so having a reliable host is pretty important to me, and I've been very happy with ASO.

http://www.bluegenesis.com

Good hosting if your willing to pay for it, offices in Canada and USA, for personal hosting I use Bluehost.com, no complaints, but my sites are very low bandwidth.

entirely overkill for what i actually use it for, but i've been using a virtual private server (vps) from linode since almost when they started (a few years now at least). $19.95/mo grabs me my own little slice of dedicated goodness, which is nice considering i have no way of hosting at my residence (only internet option here is satellite).

have never had an issue with them yet and since i've been with them they've given out quite a few upgrades to my server (as far as ram and storage space go).

i've used http://nitrozone.net/ in the past.i forget where it was, but it was linked from a advertising site i found somehow (was years ago). nitrozone had some offer on and i decided togo with them down to the price.

i had it for around 12months and it was always reliable and support was good the few times i needed to use it (setup process etc). definately use them again.

I use IX web hosting. They offer some very good packages and their support is brilliant. And they offer cloud hosting and VPS too.

DreamHost may be willing to take you. I know they host some busier web comics. There's coupon codes that can bring their first-year price down a bit. (normally $10/mo)

Failing that, you could go with a VPS.

There are also many companies offering cloud hosting services. In my opinion you should search for such a company because you will only pay for what bandwidth you use.

Which ones do you suggest I go with? There are so many options, I have no idea what I should be comparing when I am choosing. Any insight would be very helpful. Thanks. :)
