NV+ Won't turn on after RAIDiator 4.1.9 Update case 18966994

Postby idh63 » Tue Jul 10, 2012 11:16 am

Hey there;

I have had this ReadyNas NV+ for a number of years now. Vague memory says it was late in 2007 but it may have been late in 2008.

I have had no problems at all with the NAS for a very long time. About 3 months ago I occasionally could not get it to spin up the drives if I tried to get a file from it. I just use it for archival purposes and backups in a RAID configuration.

About 14 months ago I added two more 2TB drives to the 512MB drives that the NAS came with and, after a configuration process, it worked as expected.

6:47am this morning I received this message;
A newer version of the firmware for your ReadyNAS device is now available. Your ReadyNAS will download the update and send you further instructions once the download is completed.

Name: RAIDiator
Version: 4.1.9
Date: Wed Jun 20 23:52:54 2012
Size: 62943744
Description: http://www.readynas.com/RAIDiator_4_1_9_Notes

Note the date says June 20?

Then a few mins. later I get this Message Titled
System Update Status (nas-01-69-42)

message
Please reboot your ReadyNAS device to continue with the update process.

Well I powered down the NAS and now it is as dead as a doornail. It won't start up at all. No lights, Nothing.

Any suggestions gratefully received.

4.1.9 was built on June 20 a few weeks or so before release.

Please disconnect the power for 5-10 minutes then reconnect NAS to powe and see if it boots.

Thanks for the reply.

I did as you suggested though I actually had it disconnected for about 3 hours.

Plugged in power and it is still dead as a door nail.

No response at all when you press the power button?

I suggest you open a tech support (http://www.ReadyNAS.com/support) case and edit the thread title (I.e. Subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number.

ReadyNAS NV+ --Power supply blown

Postby Marto73 » Wed Jul 11, 2012 4:36 pm

To idh63,
I have heard of NV+ v1 power supplies blowing after 3, perhaps 4 years in service.
You need to ring Netgear Tech support, giving them model and serial#.

If within warranty, a replacement power supply will be shipped out. 8)
I don't know how $ charges work, if outside warranty. You will be asked for a copy
of Invoice/ proof of purchase.

There is also a short PDF work instruction on changing PSU. Briefly, plug out mains !!,
open 4 screws, and clip out.
The Power supply blowing is an electrical issue, and nothing to do with a Firmware
upgrade.

Marto,

Does anybody know what my expectations should be to get a reply from Netgear support?

It has been a week now and I really want to get my NAS running again. I just unboxed a new iMac for my sister last night after she had a lightning strike fry the old iMac. Thank god she was using TImeMachine. I could be too IF I could get a reply from support.

Maybe they think I want something for nothing? Have money; Will pay; Need my NAS!

If there is anyone reading this at Netgear, please respond to my ticket with the next steps please. I have the power supply out and I expect to be shipping is somewhere or, your sending me a replacement.

Let's "get er' done".

thanks

You could follow up with Netgear technical support, or order one from Amazon.
Remember - the NAS is not a backup plan.

Backup = Good, No Backup = Bad

Thanks!

You think that Netgear support could have told me I could buy a power supply online. Parts from Amazon didn't cross my mind!

I have taken up your suggestion and ordered from Amazon. I never did hear back from Support.

Thanks again.

Please read this thread on the NV/NV+ PSU failures and Netgear's offer to replace the PSU at no charge.

If the unit was purchased on/after Aug 21, 2007 up until sometime in 2009(?) the warranty would be 5 years. If purchased after that period the warranty would be 3 years. If the NAS is still under warranty a failed PSU would be covered regardless of whether the region you are in still replaces PSUs from units affected by the Service Action claykin referred to.
