Not long. Maybe five to ten minutes or so?

You can monitor the progress in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads)

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

Borrowing this topic.

I messed up the OS badly, I did a reinstall via boot menu and I can now access SMB and SSH but it was in no way os reinstall. Is there a way to do a full re-install and keep the data?

An OS reinstall is one of the front panel choices, and it will preserve your data. The factory default option is the one that reformats the disks, and loses all your data and settings.
