is volume expansion taking place? case number: 19079301

Postby chilblain » Fri Jul 27, 2012 10:57 pm

I just finished upgrading my drives in my Ultra NAS 4 to 3TB drives, from 1.5TBs. The sync process completed, but how can I tell if and when the volume expansion process is taking place? I rebooted the system per the log, but nothing is happening?

Try another reboot if you don't see expansion taking place under Volumes in Frontview.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

yeah, it still just says 1382 allocated on both drives under Volumes in Frontview. I am rebooting it.

What would it say if the expansion is taking place?

I haven't expanded a volume for a while now but you would certainly see the size of the volume increasing.

is there a way to force the volume expansion? or does it just do it when it feels like it?

If it doesn't start expanding after a few reboots contact support. They can help you determine what's gone wrong. Open a case at my.netgear.com and attach your logs (Status > Logs > Download all logs) zip file. Edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number.

Yes it has to sync the disks sector by sector. With larger capacity disks this does take longer. What version of RAIDiator did you update from/to?
