Copying files on the same Drive via CIFS?

Postby Charles R » Fri Jun 08, 2012 12:23 pm

I thought I could (instantly) copy files from one folder to another as long as they are on the same drive and used CIFS? Actually, I have done it before and it worked great (via my Mac Mini). However, I just tried such... copying files from one Share to another Share (on the same drive (volume)) and its doing an actual copy... Anyway around having to copy the entire file contents? If it matters I'm on a NV+ v2 with 5.3.5.

I just tried doing it via a ReadyNAS backup and it was copying the contents too... no luck there. Ok it appears it only works when you copy to the same Share... instant move (not copy). If you copy to another Share (on the same volume) you are out of luck.

On the V1 the administrator can mount the volume, and then you can move between shares on the volume.

That feature is also supposed to be in the V2 in release 5.3.5.

I mounted "c"... highest up I could think of with smb via admin and it works! As long as I use the c path for from and to.

Yes. C is the volume.
