Recording TV directly to NV+ v2?

Postby cncb » Sat Jul 21, 2012 6:25 am

I am considering getting the NV+ v2 but I would want to record digital TV over the network directly to the device. This would be ATSC (MPEG2 1080i) signals from HDHomerun network tuners. Each signal is reported as ~19Mbps by the HDHR device. The "worst case" scenario would be recording 4 programs at once (2 HDHRs) while watching a recorded program and maybe watching a 1080P MKV all at the same time. So, I'm estimating maybe around 140 Mbps bandwidth required. I have all Gigabit wired networking so this seems reasonable given the performance reported here but I was wondering if anyone has tried anything similar with success?

Also, I'm not sure if an XRAID configuration would be appropriate for this kind of disk usage (recording TV)?

Thanks for any help.

I haven't tried recording directly to the NAS, but like many folks I have done video streaming to multiple players with no problem.

XRAID is perfectly reasonable for this usage. Though you could potentially use flexraid, and use 1 disk for recording and 3 disks (raid-5) for general storage.
