Hd DVD Playback at 10mbps ?????

Postby dhpointer » Sat Sep 22, 2007 7:55 pm

A weird one.

I have a X600 and an NV+ 1 gb. I have backed up my Hd DVDs onto the NV+. I am using Windows Vista and PowerDVD on my HTPC. I have a CAT5E 100mb network via a switch.

What I can do.

I can play HD DVDs on the HTPC using the XBox drive, no problems.
I can play a HD DVD through my network from another PC, no problems.
I can play DVDs from the NV+. No problems
I can not play HD DVDs from the NV+.

On investigation and using Vista's resource monitor I have found the following.

DVD's from the NV+, network is at 100mbs and plays fine.

HD DVD's through the network from another PC uses about 25mbs, the network is at 100mbs and 35-45% CPU.

When I use the NV+ for HD DVD's the overall network speed drops back from 100mbs to 10mbs.

I can not work out why it would do this. I tried forcing the NV+ to use 100mbs but it keeps reverting back to "Auto-nogotiate".

Any ideas suggestion as to what I can do to force the NV+ or the Vista PC to run the network at 100mbs??

Any help would be kindly appreciated.

Regards

Dave

Microsoft did this intentionally(no idea why, they swear it's supposed to help) in Vista, it happens when playing audio files too. I believe it's the multimedia class scheduler service(mmcss). You can disable it from the control panel.
