Problems accessing ReadyNas NV+ over VPN?

Postby bn1 » Fri Aug 17, 2012 5:58 am

Hi I have a ReadyNas NV+ updated to the latest RAIDiator 4.1.9 [1.00a043] with the following protocols enabled
-CIFS
-NFS
-AFP

I have Two shares on the NAS with all 3 protocols enabled on them. We have a Server 2008 with Active Directory I have configured the NAS so it uses the Domain Security works fine for users in the office when connecting to it.

The problem i'm having is users outside the office when they VPN in through the Server they are unable to access the NAS I can open a command prompt and ping the NAS no problem :? I can confirm the firewall is disabled on the server, we use a Netgear DGND3300v2 as our modem I have added CIFS UDP 137 and CIFS TCP 139 into the firewall to allow traffic. The funny thing is I have a mac and connected it to the VPN I can then connect to the NAS using the AFP protocol no problem :? I have tried doing some googling of myself dont seem to be getting anywhere other than NETBIOS ?

also like to add when I try and map the drive through command prompt net use M: \\(IP ADDRESS)\(SHARE NAME) /user:(DOMAIN)\(USERNAME) (PASSWORD) I get the following error

System error 1244 has occurred.

The operation being requested was not performed because the user has not been au
thenticated.

Has anyone come across this problem PLEASE HELP

thanks

There a a few things that we can check here. Is the computer that you are VPNing with joined to another domain, same domain, or in a workgroup?
You were saying that you got the Mac to connect with AFP; did you try to have the Mac connect to the NAS via CIFS?

Sometimes in these setup, you will run into the ADS does not allow latent authentication requests. The authentication handshake may time out, and fail the connection.

HI

I have managed to test it on a mac again when I connect to the NAS via ip address "CIFS://<IP ADDRESS>" it doesn't work I get the error " There was a problem connecting to the server "<IP ADDRESS>" The server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and try again." I then tried connecting using UDP port 137 which I have forwarded in the firewall "CIFS://<IP ADDRESS>:137" and I get a different error "There was a problem connecting to the server <IP ADDRESS> This file server will not allow any additional users to log on. Try to connect again later."

Any Ideas?

Thanks
