Other computers could still access NAS. Somehow only the active session from the 2003 server dies. This is the only session using NAS overnight (from Outlook and some other soft). My other machine was in sleep mode. There is plenty of memory on the 2003 server machine (3Gig) and not many apps running. Could it be some bug in the CIFS?
The NAS should not be locking files during backup. Perhaps there was an interruption in the connection?
Would it still backup the open files? Like the Outlook file?
The interuption is unlikely as the gigabit switch is connected to both NAS and 2003 server via short patch CAT 5e cables.
