Can't Connect to Admin page "Unable to Connect" error

Postby keepy » Fri Jan 29, 2010 12:40 pm

:(

Ok here the problem... I cant connect to my admin page.. its says unable to connect in the browser.

I've tried connecting from Raidar using the Setup button... same outcome.

I can access the bittorrent manager on the NAS, no problem and its running fine.

I can also access the shares on the NAS, again no problem.

But its as if the Admin service has stopped running or something. Does anyone have any ideas?

Manual way to start the service via command prompt? I'm lost for ideas.

Ps I've rebooted numerous times in the hope that it'll just kick back into life but no joy :-(

The best bet is to log a call with support and have them remote in and take a look. There's a link in my signature.

There have been a few similar cases that have the same symptoms and have been fixed via remote telnet access:

Thats great thanks, i'll post back with how I get on. Would be nice to have a bunch of Telnet commands to hand to restart frontview... and remove the bitorrent client... but hey ho, I suppose its best having support look at it rather than me breaking it (more) :-)

WAIVER OF LIABILITY - If you have SSH access and want to try things yourself, feel free. Just be advised that you may end up causing more damage and limit your support options:

EnableRootSSH – With the EnableRootSSH add-on, you can now remote login to the ReadyNAS RAIDiator shell as a root user. Initial password for root will be the same as the current FrontView admin password. Please keep in mind that NETGEAR may deny support if you’ve enabled root access.

Of course, if Frontview isn't working and you don't have SSH installed already, then you're pretty much dead-in-the-water.

There are a few ways to restart the apache service:

1. The easy way - Just unplug the ethernet cable on the back of the NAS for about 10 seconds and then plug it back in. Of course, if rebooting doesn't work, then this won't likely help, either.

2. Via SSH

To stop apache:
Code: Select all
killall -9 apache-ssl

To start apache:
Code: Select all
apache-ssl -f /etc/frontview/apache/httpd.conf

If you think that you have a misbehaving add-on that's causing grief, you can remove it using the following command via SSH:

Code: Select all
bash /etc/frontview/addons/NAME-OF-ADD-ON.remove

You can view the currently installed add-ons using ls -all /etc/frontview/addons/

Code: Select all
Epsilon:/# ls -all /etc/frontview/addons/
total 36
drwxr-xr-x  4 admin admin 4096 2009-12-03 18:06 .
drwxr-xr-x 10 root  root  4096 2010-01-30 00:01 ..
-rw-r--r--  1 admin admin  627 2009-12-03 18:06 addons.conf
drwxr-xr-x  5 admin admin 4096 2009-01-14 09:52 bin
-rw-r--r--  1 admin admin  710 2009-08-27 19:37 BITTORRENT.remove
-rwxr-xr-x  1 admin admin  880 2009-04-23 20:36 READYNASREMOTE.remove
-rwxr-xr-x  1 admin admin 1037 2008-05-08 19:46 SLIMSERVER.remove
-rw-r--r--  1 root  root  1580 2009-12-03 18:06 TRANSMISSION.remove
drwxr-xr-x  5 admin admin 4096 2009-01-14 09:52 ui

So, to remove BITTORRENT, you would issue the command:

Code: Select all
bash /etc/frontview/addons/BITTORRENT.remove

I encountered this same issue about 10 days after upgrading my NV+ to 4.1.7 and enabling ReadyDLNA. I was able to access my shares via OSX Finder, but could not access Frontview via RAIDar or https://<NAS IP>/admin. However, after connecting to https://<NAS IP>/shares (thanks for the clue!) and logging in with the ReadyNAS user name, I was able to then access https://<NAS IP>/admin and successfully logon.

I rebooted my NV+ with "volume scan" and "fix disk quotas" enabled, and everything appears to be working correctly now.

Regards,
Ira
