Unsharing without losing data

Postby Orionos » Fri May 11, 2012 10:28 am

I have several directories in my /c that contain stuff I'm working on. Every time I boot the ReadyNAS, Frontview puts all these directories in Samba to share with open permissions for everyone. I DON'T want that! I only need to access these directories using SSH, not clutter my Shares listing. How can I stop that behavior? It doesn't share /c/home so there's got to be a way, right?

If they start with a '.', they would remain hidden, not shared, yet accessible by admin.

Thank you, Master Chirpa.

I figured that out soon after I posted. At least it gets rid of some of the clutter. I still feel apprehension at putting my data on it, afraid it'll automatically delete it. Sometimes, automation isn't a good thing. Any idea if the ReadyNAS will ever delete anything stored on /c without explicit user permission/interaction?

It would never delete a share in /c unless the user elected to do so in the Share management tab.
