After upgrading the firmware on the ReadyNAS NV+ to 4.1.9, any new shares I create prompts me for a username/password when accessing from Windows 7.
The workaround I found was to set a password on the share and apply changes, then remove the password on the share and apply changes again.
I can then access the new shares ok with read/write access.
I have upgrade to the 4.1.10 beta, but the issue still exists for new shares: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=59222
Is this a known defect?
It is for home use only, hence why I don't want any security on new shares, and the password should be optional, but it looks like it is set to "something" by default when a new share is created:
"Security mode : Share. Fit for home or small office. Select this option if you would like to restrict share access with the use of an optional share password. Each user accesses the shares on the device as a common guest user and will have the same read/write privilege as other users. This option supports setting disk quotas on a per-share basis."
