Upgrade to 4.2.21 has killed smb sharing for Mac # 19124204

ReadyNAS 4200, upgraded from 4.2.19 to 4.2.21.
All shares are smb. AFP support is not turned on.

When accessing shares, volume is mounted successfully, but all subfolders in the share now show as "no permissions" instead of the appropriate access.

What version(s) of Mac OS X?

Could you contact NetGear support (http://www.readynas.com/support) and post your case number? If you open an online case download your logs (Status > Logs > Download all logs) and attach them to the case.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

Thanks

I've heard of another user having issues with Snow Leopard and smb. Updating to Lion resolved the issue for that user.

Since updating to Lion is not an option for you (do you have PowerPC machines?) hopefully support can identify what the issue is.

It's unfortunate but Apple has recently withdrawn Lion from sale on the Apple Store and the App Store. This could effect some users who have Macs that can't be upgraded to Mountain Lion.
