USB HDD: permissions issues

Postby gemereno » Tue Aug 07, 2012 11:11 am

Hi,

I am migrating to this NAS.
I have external HDDs that I connect to the USB ports on the rear of the Ultra 2120.
I want to transfer all files to NetGear.
Some file & Directories cannot be copied : insufficient permissions.
"The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items."
Yt everyone has all rights.
Owner is the NAS administrator.
I cannot delete most of the external USB HDD files either.
I tried the backup from Frontview. And it could not be completed. I thought I use the feature proposed to overwrite all file permissions.

Please advise how I can achieve this.

Thanks

I found this post: http://sphardy.com/web/readynas/how-to-migrate-to-user-security-mode/

and I applied it to the USB HDD (bottom of the Shares/Share Listing screen - requires scroll down!!)

but no matter how many times I apply the changes on that screen, it remains the same...

Any suggestion?

ps. when I tried to backup the USB HDD on the NAS using Frontiew, it failed for the same reason I guess.

What happens if you connect the external hard drives to a PC? Can you copy them that way?

actually it comes from my Mac. I managed to move everything over and reformat USB HDD into NFS. So it can be of later use.
I notice that I now have permissions issues on directories moved over onto the NAS. I will try to apply Frontview permission cleaning and see where that leads.
Do you know why NAS cannot manage USB HDD with shares like anything within the NAS itself? that would be so handy.
