Can't access shared folders anymore

Postby balaya » Wed Aug 08, 2012 3:28 am

Hello,

I have a readynas NV+ in a small company. It is set to user security. I have created the requested users, groups & shares. Without obvious reasons, it was difficult to connect to those shared folders. But we succeed using a map network drive using a different user name. Again, for some none obvious reasons, some users on some computers couldn't connect the mapped network drive and could again. I have never been able to understand the reasons for that.
Today, we've moved to a different location. And now, impossible to anyone on any PC to access those map drives. I try to connect again the shared folder with different username. I'm prompted to enter the username. I input it as well as the password. I'm then prompted again to enter the username to access the readynas. Then, I have a message which says something like (it is in French) "The network folder is currently mapped with a different username & password. To connect with a different username & password, you have to disconnect any other existing mapped drive on this network". But, I don't have any other mapped drive on this server.
We don't have a domain controller.
We can access the user folders but not an additional shared folder. I have tried to share using HTTP/S. I have a "Forbidden" message.

I don't understand what is wrong. Your help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Did your IP address range change when you moved to the new location? Or are you using static addressing that didn't change?

Is the "forbidden' message warning you about a security certificate? That is expected if the IP address changes, you will need to create a new security exception for the NAS in the browser.

It has changed few hours because while moving, another dhcp has been introduced by mistake. But everything is back to previous IP range. When I use the HTTP access, I'm prompted to enter my username & password. Then I can see the shared folders. When I click on one of them, I get this forbidden message. No certificate error
Here is what I did to have those shared drives
-I've declared my users
-I've declared my groups
-I've added my users to my groups as "Secondary members" (not sure it is the right translation)
-I've created my shares.
What I'm not sure of is how can I set the shares permissions to groups.

Just to make sure I understand this:

(a) after the move, accessing any folder on the NAS with http results in getting a forbidden message, after you enter the correct user/password
(b) Attempting to map shared folders to drive letters gets you the "network folder is currently mapped..." error
(c) attempting to map individual user folders to drive letters works ok.

(d) before the move, everything above worked, although there were sometimes connection errors.

Is all that correct? Also, can you log into the NAS as administrator with Frontview? What firmware are you running (you can see this via the RAIDar app, even if you can't log in).

This is exactly correct.
I'm using the latest firmware which I thaugth would help...
But Stephen, I think I understood what I did wrong.
I used to have the following settings:
-In CIFS:
-Shared Activated read/write
-In Advanded options:
-Permision for other users deactivated
I changed to:
-In CIFS:
-Shared deactivated
-Groups in read only the group I want
-Groups in read/write the group I want
-In Advanded options:
-Permision for other users read/write

And now, everything works like a charm
Thanks for your help
