Not cool - now my NAS has 4x drives which were, but no longer on the HCL. NG owes owners an explanation.

As a relative newbie, please can I enquire as to how frequently the compatibility lists are updated?
I have recently had the need to consider upgrading hard drive capacity on my ReadyNAS Duo, and found that many of the drives listed are now no longer available, and their replacements are not listed either.

I also have been caught by same problem. We have a ReadyNAS NV+ and my supplier does not have any other replacement disc for it than a ST1000NM0011 which does not appear on the Netgear HCL. Does anyone know if it is compatible with the NV+ and if it possible to mix this disc with the current ST31000340AS (I think) discs?

The supplier also said that it would be compatible while reffering to "Netgears QVL, 5010462056". Anyone knowing what it reffers to?

I just bought an Eaton 3S UPS 700VA, that is not listed in the Compatibility list, but it works fine with my ReadyNas Duo (v1). You could add it to the compatible UPS-es, as well as the smaller version with 550 VA.

I bought four WD20EARX drives because it was listed on the compatibility list for NV+. They don't work.

When I inserted all 4 disks and reset the NV+ to factory settings, the NV+ churned for hours, then said "bad disk".
When I inserted 1 disk, it seemed to work. When I tried to expand xraid later with one or more additional drives, the NV+ churned for some hours and then said "kernel panic".
When I tried to insert all 4 disks and format as RAID5, the NV+ churned for more than two days, then it said "bad disk".
I don't have time for this, so I'm giving up the NV+, buying a newer/better/faster NAS instead.

An old XP computer has no problems mounting the disks.

NetGear might want to consider removing this disk from the compatibility list.

Hi, a quick question.
Is Netgear/ReadyNas looking at certifying the new 4TB drives?

Specifically the WD4000FYYZ (WD RE 4TB) on the Readynas Pro Business Edition (4.2.22).

I have 2 bays free on my Pro, and these 4TB drives look tempting to fill those spaces along side the 2TB drives currently in the existing 4 bays.
Unless you can specifically rule out the 4TB drives ever working, then I can go get some 3TB drives on the list instead.

Will 4Tb drives be on hardware compatibility list soon for Readynas Pioneer Pro? Seems like the 4 Tb drives have been out for a while and I don't want to buy six 3 Tb drives when firmware may be coming out to support 4 Tb drives. Someone please help! Thanks, Ryan

You'll probably need to contact NTGR Support if you want any kind of answer to that. The QA HCL guys haven't been on the forums since last June.

I would think that HP would work. What Windows version are you using?

Another vote for Hitachi Deskstar 5K3000 HDS5C3020ALA632 2TB for ReadyNAS Duo v1.

Western Digital Red WD20EFRX 64MB 2TB also looks very promising with TLER.

Dear NetGear ...

Your ReadyNas Duo V2 HWCL is seriously not accurate.

The following drives DO NOT WORK with ReadyNas Duo v2 RAIDiator 5.3.7 (ARM) :

Manufacturer : Seagate
Model : ST2000DM001
PartNumber : 9YN164-306
FirmWare : CC4H

Manufacturer : Seagate
Model : ST2000DM001
PartNumber : 1CH164-301
FirmWare : CC24

I have now wasted enough of my time and money trying to make drives listed on your HWCL work when clearly they don't.

Hello everyone,

I will get a ReadyNAS Duo V2 very soon, I was expecting to be able to use 2 Western Digital Green 2TO WD20EZRX in it. The are exactly what I want for HDDs in terms of MTBF, size, silence and price... so it's pretty annoying that they are not in the compatibility list, when the 3TO EZRX and the 2GO EARS are in it. Has anyone tried this WD20EZRX with the Duo V2? If I take them anyway, they should work nonetheless, right? Or is it pretty much assured I will run into some kind of problem?

Thanks :)

You'd be better off with the WD20EFRX. It has similar (or better) specs and a longer warranty.

WDC doesn't recommend the WD20EZRX for RAID.

Thank you for your advice, but the RED WD are way more expensive, and since I want to buy 4 of those (2x2Go for the NAS, 2x1Go for the main PC) it quickly adds up... However, after checking on the Internet about this, WD does indeed warn against RAID usage of Green HDDs. I read elswhere it works fine, but in the end the warranty won't apply if WD knows you've been RAIDing the disks. Bummer.

No need for the main PC to use RED drives, unless you are running RAID on it (not sure exactly what you mean by 2x1Go).

I agree they cost somewhat more than the green drives, but they are a lot cheaper than enterprise drives. And the longer warranty to some degree offsets the price differential.

As you check out your options, I suggest searching these forums for the model you are considering.
