Offline caching always enabled ?

Recently I ran into a little problem.

I have setup a user's profile share \\nas01\profiles. The oplocks for this share are disabled.
One domain user is configured with a roaming profile \\nas01\profiles\user1

When user1 logs in on the WinXP everything work perfectly, but in the WinXP event log I see a warning (EventID 1525):
"Windows has detected that Offline Caching is enabled on the Roaming Profile share - to avoid potential profile corruption, Offline Caching must be disabled on shares where roaming user profiles are stored."

Is this a normal behaviour? I would have expected that by turing off the oplocks the caching to be disabled...

What is your share name for roaming profiles?

The share name on the readynas is Profiles.
Default access is "Read/Write"
Share is hidden.
No other options are set.

I'm having the same issue, and I tried installing this add-on after an email support tech referenced this thread. When I try to install the add-on though, it tries to verify the bin file and pops up with an error "Invalid image". Any suggestions?

I have applied this add-on, but I'm still haveing the same problem. I noticed in the readynas system log that the add-on disabled client-side caching on any share named Profiles. The share I'm using is named profiles$. Would the dollar sign cause this not to work?

That's probably it. I guess you could send a PM to Skywalker and ask him (just in case he doesn't come along this thread again soon). It shouldn't be that hard to modify the add-on so it can handle Profiles$ as well.

This updated addon will also handle your share name. It is case insensitive, so lower case should be fine.

I installed this addon, but it is still not working. I noticed in the log client side caching was turned off on shares named "profile". I need client side caching turned off of shared names "profiles$" (with a dollar sign).

Looks like the addon did the right thing (the log message just wasn't changed for the new addon), but the change gets reverted somewhere else. That will have to be resolved in next firmware version. We should have a new beta coming out pretty soon if you need this quickly.

Was there a Windows update that caused this to happen? Until my first post in this thread, we didn't have any issues with the offline caching and roaming profiles.

While I do need this issue resolved as soon as possible, I'm not too sure about installing a beta release on our NAS.
