Trying to join a Samba PDC

We run a Nitix Mark II box running Samba 3.0.23d + Patches and are having trouble trying to join the NAS box to the domain.
when I try and join using
net rpc join -w TRG_CORNWALL -U administrator%password

I get the error

[2008/05/07 08:58:20, 0] utils/net_rpc_join.c:net_rpc_join_newstyle(304)
error setting trust account password: NT code 0x1c010002
Unable to join domain TRG_CORNWALL.


I have posed the question to Nitix support and got the following answer

Hi John as of version 4.5.0 (We are running 5.0) and above we have Active Directory Member support for "windows type domains" as well as legacy NT4 Domain Member support which are you trying to join with? What OS is Nitix currently running? Does the infrant have a WINS legacy mode option?

Please provide further details on the Infrant NAS(Samba version, Os requirements, Authenticated Login, Linux version they use on the back end?)

Has anyone come accross this?

Is it possible to upgrade that Samba instance to 3.0.25 or higher?

This is the response from Nitix.

"we will not be upgrading Samba version for the time being."

It is an all in one solution with very little user configuration.

I had already looked at those posts and since I cannot upgrade the samba version I was hoping for another solution other than to revert the OS on the NAS which really isnt a solution
