Two NAS1 shares under "shared"

Postby TheGrayGhost » Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:47 pm

I am new to using the Duo and set up the drive with an AFP share. In the "Shared" area of the finder window I see two NAS1s listed, NAS1 and NAS1 (AFP). I cannot connect to the NAS1 share, but can connect fine to the NAS1 (AFP), which is really the only one I want. Is there any way to get rid of the basic NAS1 share so it won't show up in my "Shared" list?

Sounds like you have TimeMachine support enabled. Assuming so, then NAS1 is the TM target - as a side effect of how support is enabled on ReadyNAS devices, that additional destination appears and cannot be disabled.

NAS: Ultra-4, NV+ & Duo v2 :: ST31500341AS & HDS723020BLA642 Drives
Network: Netgear GS108Tv2 / DM111P :: Airport Extreme / Express & Time Capsule
Clients: OS X 10.6 - 10.8 :: Ubuntu 11.x :: Win 7 + SP#1
UPS: APC ES-550

Hi, this is my first post in this forum.

I have the same problem:
I am using the ReadyNAS Ultra 2 since a couple of weeks.
I configured the hostname simply as "ReadyNAS" and in both my MACs the NAS appears twice in the finder sidebar:
once as "readynas" and a second time as "ReadyNAS (CIFS)".
(I also have a Windows 7 PC, where this problem does not appear).

I already searched for a solution without success and tried different setting.
Currently (still having this small problem):
- Time Machine support is disabled on the ReadyNAS;
- CIFS is the only file protocol enabled. All the others are disabled (including AFP);
- SMB services are disabled on the MAC side;
- Model: ReadyNAS Ultra 2;
- ReadyNAS firmware: RAIDiator 4.2.21;
- MAC OS: 10.6.8.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Two NAS1 shares under "shared"

Because you have CIFS enabled, the "readynas" link is the native advertisement of the service as used by Windows machines; the "readynas (CIFS)" link is the bonjour advertisement.

Thank you for the fast reply.

If I disable CIFS, I cannot access the NAS at all anymore.
I also tried enabling AFP while keeping CIFS disabled and something weird happens: I see three ReadyNAS: "readynas", "ReadyNAS (AFP)" and "ReadyNAS (CIFS)", but when I click on any of them I receive an error message.

I confirm that the Time Machine support is disabled in the ReadyNAS.

You will need CIFS enabled for Windows at least. If you put that back, then you can access everything normally? That is, the only issue is the multiple advertisements?

Hi,

Yes, I re-enabled CIFS and I can access everything normally.
The only small issue is the multiple advertisement (I see the readynas share twice in the finder sidebar).

If there's a way to get rid of it (the double advertisement), fine. Otherwise, I will have to live with it.

Thanks,
Vernatronics.
