Snow Leopard 10.6. After upgrade, can't copy into AFP

Postby evlnte » Mon Aug 31, 2009 5:36 pm

Immediately after upgrading to Snow Leopard 10.6, when I try to copy a file from the Downloads folder into an AFP directory, I get this message "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items." with an "OK" button. And the file disappears from the folder in the ReadyNas directory. Running 4.1.6 on ReadyNAS NV+

I had this problem too. But it appears to be associated with the following (assuming you have limited read/write access to specific individuals):

There are actually two AFP servers listed in the Shared section of the sidebar of Finder:
* one that just list the "server name" (as you would expect) but appears to be limited to guest read access only and
* one that lists the "server name (AFP)" (unnecessarily including the AFP suffix) and permitting you to select connect.

If you connect to "server name (AFP)", pressing the connect button, and reentering the admin name and password, Snow Leopard connects to the share like you expect.

That, of course, still leaves the phantom guest share and also a "server name (CIFS)" share that appears in Network Shares even though CIFS is disabled as a network service in the ReadyNAS and you get an error if you attempt to connect to the CIFS share.

Comments above apply to 4.1.6.

That actually has not effect. My user name/password are already saved to automatically connect me as Admin to the desire Share. Pressing "Disconnect" in the FInder and then "Connect As" logged me back in using the same user and still received the same error when I tried to copy a file into this Share.

What happens if you remove your keychain login and login manually?

Same exact problem here. I am going to keep experimenting to isolate the cause. I have my shares as both AFP and Samba. Both have the same result.

Running ReadyNAS Pro version 4.2.5

Logged in with "Connect to Server" and use AFP:// with my IP address for my server. Same error message.

Same problem for me here. Upgraded my MacBook (Unibody, 2 GHz, late 2008) to 10.6 and i was unable to copy or move files over AFP on the NV+. I made a backup boot volume of my HDD before upgrading to 10.6, so i tryed to access and move files on AFP shares after booting on my external HDD running 10.5.8 with no problems at all ! Came back to 10.6 and same AFP issues were back too. I tryed to create a new AFP share to make some tests with no results, i observed same problems.
I use NV+ with last RAIDiator installed, in "SHARE" mode, so i don't have set any account user with passwords. I usually connect to my AFP shares in "guest" mode, everything was working like a charm until 10.6 upgrade.
Everything is OK with my MBP (Late 2007, 2,4 GHz) running 10.5.8.

Hope this could help you to solve this issue...

I have a 10.5.8 upgraded to SL and a NV+ running 4.1.6 running Share mode. I was able to copy over dmg, zip and video and music files over with no error messages and everything copying over ok.

Was this with a particular file format?

I'd rather not say my server's user name but I will say it is single word with no punctuation. Same user name I had prior to upgrade to Snow Leopard. Security Mode: User. My Users group is writen-enabled in AFP for all shares. Should I run Advanced AFP Permissions to re-apply these permissions to my Users group? That shouldn't harm anything. Right?

User security mode.

Both files are coming from the same folder on the mac, to the same share on the ReadyNAS.

My ReadyNAS NV+ units are set to "Share" for security mode. I don't have passwords set for any of the shares. I have had trouble copying .dmg, .pdf, and .zip files; however, I did not have any trouble copying a .doc file. All those files were located on the desktop of my iMac, which is connected to my network via ethernet cable. I have had similar problems copying files from my MacBook, but was just able to copy over a .zip file (different one than on the iMac). I haven't tried a .dmg from the MacBook yet.

I'm having the same problem as well on 10.6 with 4.1.6 on 2 NV+ units. In my Googling I found this:

http://forum.synology.com/enu/viewtopic ... 4c47a0e84d

Something to do with extended attributes. I just did exactly what the second post said and downloaded a DMG file with Firefox. It copied fine, but the same file downloaded with Safari didn't work.

Edit: I'm getting the same problem over Samba. However unlike the post in the Synology forums, when I use the terminal the files copy fine. Very odd.
