Safely disconnecting USB from Duo.

Postby alanwsg » Tue Jul 10, 2012 3:31 am

Is it possible to safely disconnect a USB drive from a duo (V1) using the front panel buttons?
I seem to remember reading something about holding the b/u button down for 10 seconds but I can't find the reference to it now and there's nothing mentioned in the manual.
It seems a shame to be able to start the b/u process from the front panel but then having to login to Frontview to finish it properly.

Not sure about the Duo, but on the NV+ you press the BU button for 5 secs and all the LEDs blink, and the LCD displays "USB unmounted". Look for something like that on the Duo?

I do the above regularly w/o using Frontview.

Just some more info for anyone looking at this thread,
The "press the BU button for 5 secs" action only unmounts a USB drive plugged into the front USB socket.
It doesn't unmount one plugged into the rear sockets.

Oops, yeah I knew that, having learned it the hard way!

I suppose this is a "hardware function" and can't be changed in soft- or firmware, which is too bad cuz it would make my ReadyNAS prettier for not having the cable sticking-out the front! :P
