TwonkyMedia 5 - how to get rid of?

Postby BrainsOnToast » Fri Mar 27, 2009 5:23 pm

I've got to the point where I realised that TwonkyMedia Server 5 was pretty much responsible for all the problems I've been having with my NAS. So I decided to remove it and try TM 4 to see if that would be any better (read reports either way).

However, I can't seem to remove it. I even tried a firmware reinstall - it reset my password but all the addons are still there! It did seem to remove my SSH access though.

Is there any way to do a firmware reinstall that will remove Twonky, Transmission etc (i.e. all addons) that won't also be a destructive reset on the /c/ partition?

Help appreciated...

you have a remove button for each addons in front view :)

you can also do in shell bash /etc/frontview/addons/ADDONSNAME.remove

replace ADDONSNAME by the name of the add-ons : TRANSMISSION NTOP ....

which raidiator do you have on your nas ?

Firmware is [1.00a042] which I think is Raidiator 4.1.4.
I've tried clicking the remove button in FrontView - it just removes the text for Twonky but leaves the grey frame and the remove button is still available.

I even tried turning it off by deselecting it and clicking save - it went grey, but then when I went back in it was green even though the button was deselected.

I don't have shell access as I can't even upload the EnableRootSSH.bin file - it says "local file upload failed".

Really don't want to do a destructive reset again as it took ages to copy all the files over before - is there any way to do a firmware upload that will remove all the addons and reset the device to default without losing the data on the /c/ volume?

OK, I have shell access- as I had reinstalled the firmware the root password had been reset to netgear1 /slaps forehead.

Trying the shell remove now.

OK, I've run the bash script - it completed very quickly and I still had loads of twonky processes running after the script completed. Twonky was still listed in FrontView, but I'm rebooting now just to check if that will fix it.

Twonky doesn't seem to be running (I don't have the almost 1GB memory usage I had before and there's no twonky processes appearing in top) but it's still listed on the FrontView installed add-ons page.

Thoughts?

Also - df is reporting that I've used 99% of my hdc1 / mountpoint - I'm assuming that Twonky has filled my root drive with crap again.

Going through the usual cache directories now to remove it.

wow.

rm -rf /var/twonkymedia returned and now df says that 23% is used.

think there's still a bug in the positioning of twonkymedia cache files

/var/twonkymedia is linked to another directory to prevent root from beeing full

what size is your volume and how many songs ?

ReadyNAS:~# df
Filesystem 1k-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/hdc1 2031872 453664 1578208 23% /
tmpfs 16 0 16 0% /USB
/dev/c/c 1451810400 1224181648 227628752 85% /c
/c/media 1451810400 1224181648 227628752 85% /home/ftp/media

Before the /dev/hdc1 filesystem was full (a few kb available)

I used the latest twonkymedia from here.

I deleted the /var/twonkymedia directory and now I have the above.

TwonkyMedia is still listed in my installed add-ons directory and I can't remove it

13,336 songs.

Thanks!

Realised that when I did the firmware reflash (after Twonky went wrong) it reset the firmware down to pre 4.1.4 - updated to 4.1.4 and Twonky's gone now.

Still worried that Twonky installed files on the /dev/hdc1 drive though?

And Twonky4 doesn't seem to work on the ReadyNAS NV+ with this firmware version.

Thinking at this point I might just try the T74 release and see if the new UPnP server scratches the itch.
