Memeo will not license itself

Simplifying backup strategy with ReadyNAS

Memeo will not license itself

Postby hurnik » Mon Oct 17, 2011 2:25 pm

I've got a brand new Ultra 2 ReadyNAS. Supposedly it comes with a 3 user memeo backup
I got the ReadyNAS all setup, use has drive mapped to it, etc.

Windows XP Pro without the firewall (firewall is OFF).

I started Memeo, and it wanted to download updated version, so I did (perhaps that's a mistake?)
I created a new backup plan (I did NOT create an account or sign in to Memeo).

It backs up to the ReadyNas vault just fine

But it insists that I'm still using a trial version

I've seen several threads that others have the same problem, but it seems nobody from NetGear support really bothers to respond.

NetGear and pc are on the same NetGear switch right next to each other (same network, etc.)

Probably best to create a support case.

some posts listed @ search.php?keywords=memeo&terms=all&author=&sc=1&sf=all&sk=t&sd=d&sr=posts&st=0&ch=300&t=0&submit=Search seem to indicate you need to have nas discovery enabled in frontview.

thanks for the suggestion, but discovery is turned on. guess a support case is in order (although based upon others calling NetGear, they have no idea they even license the product).

So we opened a case ( 16948717) and were told that after the 30 days the product would automatically register with the NAS and work. Well guess what?

It doesn't.

So now I get to open a new case.

With this many people having problems you'd think NetGear would get their act together.

This is what I'm talking about - anyone get a resolution to this issue? I can't even get the software since it wasn't on the disc in my box. The version from Memeo's site doesn't autolicense either. For registration it wants a key.

You need a version supplied by NetGear. Contact NetGear tech support and if the rep you get isn't aware of the issue ask for your case to be escalated. Better to start a new thread rather than post in an existing one so you can post the case number in the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in the thread).

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.
