4.2.12-T9 CNID DB

Postby pcp-ip » Wed Jun 09, 2010 5:39 pm

Since upgrading my 2100 to 4.2.12-T9, I'm getting the follow error pop-up in the Finder (OSX 10.6.3) when mounting a share over AFP:

Message from server "NAS2F"
Something wrong (sic) with the volume's CNID DB, using temporary CNID DB instead. Check server messages for details. Switching to read-only mode.

After okaying the dialog box everything seems fine with the volume. There's nothing in the Frontview logs about a problem. Is this worrisome? Should I be preparing for a failure?

What RAIDiator version were you on before you updated to 4.2.12-T9? If unsure, you can check in initrd.log (go to Status > Logs > Download all Logs > Extract zip contents > initrd.log).

My shares are all read-only. It would be great to get to use them again... any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you create a new share does AFP work fine on that?

New shares work fine. It's actually only 2 of my 4 shares that have become read-only with this CNID DB problem.

If I mount the shares as CIFS I can write to them without issue. Is there something like a .DS_Store or Desktop file that should be deleted from the CIFS to get AFP working again?

I think it's .AppleDB that you'd need to delete. Depending on what apps you use that may or may not be a good idea.

The .AppleDB folder is a special folder specifically used for AFP support - CIFS access is configured to hide this folder as it should never normally be played with and is not needed for CIFS access.

You can try connecting to the share via FTP, or SSH if you have that enabled, and delete the folder that way.

Note that if you have any aliases or mac-specific package files that you work on directly from your NAS, these may be impacted by deleting this folder, in which case I would strongly suggest you have an up to date backup before doing this

Network: Netgear GS108Tv2 / DM111P :: Airport Extreme / Express & Time Capsule
Clients: OS X 10.6 - 10.8 :: Ubuntu 11.x :: Win 7 + SP#1
UPS: APC ES-550

Can you reboot your ReadyNAS and see if you're seeing the same problem?
