Hacking ReadyNAS Photos

Postby smartwombat » Wed Mar 12, 2008 3:52 pm

You can't specify a UNC path through the UI.
But you can hack the data to do it.

Do this at your own risk, your mileage may vary, batteries not included.

C:\Dekoh\user-data\ReadyNAS_Portal\
This is where the settings are stored for the users.
There is one folder for each user.
You will probably just have one folder, as you're one user.
In that folder there is a file DekohLocationBookmarks.props

This I think is pretty standard, for a user called paul :)

My\ Documents=C\:\\Documents and Settings\\paul\\My Documents
My\ Pictures=C\:\\Documents and Settings\\paul
Home=C\:\\Documents and Settings\\paul
Desktop=C\:\\Documents and Settings\\paul\\Desktop
My\ Music=C\:\\Documents and Settings\\paul\\My Documents\\My Music

The solution is simple.
Add an 8th line like this:
NAS=\\\\nas-01-AC-60\\Pictures

And it adds a bookmarked location NAS to the list.
I'm sure there is a recommended way to do it, but it escaped me completely.
So I gave way to my inner child :twisted:

Bugs in the default settings:
1) "My Documents" is hard coded to the C drive, not where my documents are
2) "My Pictures" is hard coded to the root of my settings, not to My Pictures subfolder
3) "My Music" is hard coded to the correct location - if my PC was default setup
4) "Home" doesn't have much chance it seems to follow My Documents

But it's all wrong unfortunately.
My Documents is set to \\nas-01-AC-60\PAul and it couldn't get that right whereas the Microsoft TweakUI tool can.

At least now I know how to hack it so it works for me :neener:

The bookmarks do not work if the location of My Documents is changed in windows explorer. Thanks for reporting the bug. We will let you know when an update with the fix is available.

You will not be able to bookmark UNC paths currently. One way to access network resources could be to map a drive. The mapped drive will show up in import locations.

Thanks, 3po

I found that I can bookmark them, once I fight the UI into submission.

Actually it won't in bookmarks, if you have more than 18 entries in the list.
I have physical drives A-M and the list of bookmarks stops at K.
