How to access bittorrent remotely??

Postby matizz » Tue Feb 03, 2009 12:29 pm

Hello, I bought a Ready nas Duo a few weeks ago. I really like the bittorrent ad on but, I was very disappointed wen I've try to access remotely from my work.

basically what i want is get access from anywhere in the web, i can access the front page but wen I go to the ad on and try to acess the bittorrent ad on it send to the lan ip.

Is there any way to access remotely? I've try to open the port 8080 on the router an the access by http://"myip":8080 and still didn't work.

any one can help me?

thank's

Do you have port 8080 forwarded on your router?

No problem here to connect to my Readynas Bittorrent client.

In your router at home, foward incoming port XXX (pick a number) to 192.168.xx.xxx (internal IP of your Netgear) port 8080.

Then, when you enter your home IP on a external computer and use :xxx (where XXX is your chosen portnumber), it works.

Example:
Home IP = 45.567.890
Chosen port = 9876
Then browse from external computer to
http://45.567.890:9876

it should work.
BUT: When you're doing this at work, most probably your ports may not all be open.
I can also NOT connect to the client when at work.

You can refer to this post on how you can securely access your Bittorent client and most of the Readynas services using SSH tunneling. Remember everyone seeding or leeching can see you ip address and all they need to do is run a port scan to see which ports you have open then they can already access Bittorent client settings.

With the SSH method, you only need to forward 1 port from your router and the rest can be defined using SSH tunnels. Cheers!
