Where is the bittorrent app?

Postby dented » Mon Oct 24, 2011 5:55 am

I want to install the netgear and partner addon 'bittorrent' but cannot find it anymore, has it been removed? Excuse me if I am being really stupid and missed something obvious.

I have a readynas Ultra4 running 4.2.17 and I don't see it in the 'add-ons' section either, I just see Skifta and Readynas Photos II available.

Check here -> http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=608 for x86 and here -> http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=617 for Sparc (4.1.3+).

- You may want Transmission instead - http://www.readynas.com/?cat=62.

Thanks for the links, do you know why they are not listed on the "resources>add-ons" page?

I tried Transmission but had the permissions issue and could not fix it .. viewtopic.php?f=36&t=41756&start=540 .. Shame as it seems like a really good app. What is the best torrent app for the nas (x86), I have a feeling it is transmission?

My opinion - since the Transmission add-on is maintained by Super-Poussin (not Netgear or a 'partner' / affiliated company) it is therefore a 'third party' add-on. I haven't seen the issue you referenced in your post but have found most issues are taken care of rather quickly by Super-Poussin. It may be just a matter of waiting until the next release?

It might be worth looking at FW 4.2.19 too - It probably gets tested against more than older firmware revs.

Sorry I meant why the netgear/partner bittorrent app is not in the "resources>add-ons" page, not the transmission one :-).

I will hang tight for the next release and should have updated to the new firmware by then. I don't want to update until I have been able to backup my NAS.

I have a ReadyNas Ultra 2 running Radiator 4.2.19. I am also having troubles finding the BitTorrent client. It is not available pre-installed as was the case with earlier versions of ReadyNas. And it is no longer available under the section resources->add-ons on www.readynas.com. I used the link above and downloaded the binaries, but when I try to install them I get an error saying
Installation of this add-on conflicts with an existing service. Aboring installation.

How do I get the standard BitTorrent client to run on Radiator 4.2.19?
