NTP Server

Postby nbl1268 » Sat Oct 03, 2009 10:20 pm

Hi developers,

I see that the ReadyNAS Duo has an inbuilt NTP client that gets the time from any two NTP sources.

Is there an add on to allow the ReadyNAS Duo be an NTP server for PC/clients on my local network??

Cheers

Hi,

When I get a chance, I will take a look at this. Should be relatively straight forward to compile it and build as an add-on. The trickier bit (for me anyway) will be getting the config parameters in the addon GUI to work.

This will be a SPARC only addon (which will work on the Duo) as I don't have an Intel development environment, using the NTP software that the NTP client within RAIDiator is based on.

Are you ok to test it for me? N.B. It may be a couple of weeks before I can bash this out as I do this around my day-job and life :)

If you have SSH access, you can always use apt-get to install the Debian NTP server package. Not sure if that does the trick or breaks anything but doesn't have any dependencies apart from NTP packages.

This isn't the latest and greatest version (v4.2.0a), so if you want the latest (v4.2.4p7), it would have to be compiled and an addon built.

Run the following as root:
Code: Select all
apt-get install ntp-server

The config file is in /etc/ntp.conf.

I got around packing up the stuff. Since there's no real need to configure anything there, I just made this an installable/removable addon.

NTP-Server_4.2.0a-readynas-0.9.2.bin

Of course, as mentioned by airwofl, you can always use apt-get to get to the same result. So this is mainly for those who don't feel comfortable with using apt-get. Maybe I'll update NTP to the latest version in time but for the moment this version should get you started.

Stefan

Ah well, since I was already working on it anyway, I decided to compile the latest stable version as well:

NTP-Server_4.2.4pl7-readynas-0.9.0.bin

Choose your poison ;)
