ReadyNAS Pro boot loop Case #:14104043

Please post question and issues pertaining to ReadyNAS booting here.

ReadyNAS Pro boot loop Case #:14104043

Postby Craigster » Sun Dec 26, 2010 1:39 pm

The system starts bootup, goes through checking root fs, checking fs, done, then shutting down.
I've gone through the process of reinstalling the os and flash memory. but still the same problem.

Hoping a Jedi can take a look at the case, as the tech support that has looked at it has not done anything in regards to attempting a tech support telent to possibly fix it.

Thank you

Do you have a current and complete backup?
Remember - the NAS is not a backup plan.

Of course there's no backup. That's why I'm seeking Jedi help. The backup situation is prepared to be in place once the NAS is fully bootable and I can access the data.
I've already gone through all the recommended methods to try and get it to recover myself, short of a factory default. Seeing they have fixed several of these kinds of issues quickly (once they get to them), that's why I asked for help.

My ReadyNAS is standing by patiently for help, however long that may take..... :D

easy, open a case with techsupport and have them escalate it to L3. it will be fixed.

That's been done. I had to call in and pay for a per incident support. Attempted to transfer my call to higher support, but eventually the call dropped.
Hopefully the ticket is transferred to L3 as well.

Exactly same issue here (Pro Pioneer), but i'm now out of the loop, without complex recovery operations or support !

- Power off (front blue switch)
- Switch off (back power switch)
- Mains power chord off
- Wait for 1 min
- Reconnect mains
- Switch on back
- Power on front
=> Pro reboots and works as usual !

I will be obviously interested in understanding why and how this strange and dangerous reboot loop occurs ?

Sometimes when there is an improper shutdown after a proper shutdown has been initiated a file is left behind instructing the NAS to shutdown. This is run during the boot process causing the NAS to shutdown, but the file is not deleted so it is run again on the next boot. L3 tech support can remotely login and delete the relevant file to fix the issue.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

the fix is: call techsupport and have them escalate your case.

there is absolutely nothing you can do on our own.

I totally agree. I closed the original case today, and opened a new one. Filled out a nice or not so nice survey for the first case.

New case # is 14374819 in case any support people are able to assist.
