NV+ V1 "booting" after disk replacement

Postby techhead » Mon Jul 16, 2012 9:42 am

Hello all,

Client called this morning, NV+ was unresponsive. The display shows "Booting..." with no disk or activity LEDs lit.
A replacement disk arrived last week as we had growing SMART errors on disk 1. Disk 2 of 2 was ok.
Suspecting disk 1 was preventing boot, we powered down, removed disk 1 and successfully restarted in tech support mode.
Powered down again, replaced disk 1, restarted and unit now shows "booting..." again for the last 40 minutes with pulsating power LED, solid on disk 2 LED and 1-flash-per-second disk 1 LED. The device is now accessable via Raidar at its normal static IP address. Raidar shows booting also, no flashing LEDs, the appropriate ones are lit. We cannot browse the files or access the unit via web browser.

How long should we wait and what should we try next?

Thanks for yur help!

What were the SMART errors on disk 1?

Is the replacement disk a used disk?

Sector reallocation...drive failed Sunday.
Replacement disk is warranty exchange from Seagate, received "certified repaired" version, same model. ST3500320NS

Does the NAS boot fine with just disk 2 installed (same slot as before)? If so, what happens if you hot-add (add while NAS is on) the replacement disk 1
