Reset with new disk #19089818

Postby hhernandez1230 » Sun Jul 29, 2012 6:04 pm

I have a Duo v1. I have been trying to do a factory default reset and/or OS install. It has been about year since I used my Duo. I bought two new 2TB drives (fromt he supported list). I know I have done a reset because I can see that DHCP is handing out an ip address. (I used to have it set with an IP address). When I boot it up without the disk, RAIDar finds the Duo but i cannot do anything with it. I pop the disk back in...nothing. what should be the correct order here. I have tried both but cannot seem to get it right. It just sits there with the power button LED blinking. I have left it running for a while now. thoughts?

Power off NAS, put disk in, do factory reset (wipes everything) and see if the NAS is detected by RAIDar. Factory reset instructions are in the hardware manual: http://www.readynas.com/docs

If it doesn't work with both disks installed try with just one disk installed and see if this is any different.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

Does the NAS come up with your old disks in it (not the 2TB ones)? Power off before swapping the disks.

When did you purchase the Duo? Perhaps you should open a tech support case at my.netgear.com and post your case number.

Warranty is 3 years. So did you purchase 3 years and 2 months ago?

Ouch.

Does the boot menu work (i.e. if you select tech support mode is the unit found in RAIDar? See boot menu instructions in http://www.readynas.com/docs)

Following the instructions, I released after the third flash which should put in the tech support mode. The power button LED is still flashing and I cannot see it with RAIDar.

You could try tech support mode with no disks installed then once in tech support mode put your disks in.

If that doesn't work before trying boot recovery do a memory test to try and rule out bad memory: http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu

Yes, USB Boot Recovery may be worth a try. Don't try TFTP boot recovery. After doing the USB Boot Recovery try doing a factory default again.
