RAIDiator 4.2.21 Update - IP Addresses

Postby T3Jn » Mon Jul 02, 2012 5:53 am

I've just noticed the new update for my ReadyNas Pro 6. I set it up a couple of weeks ago before going on holiday and have had a lot of problems (including but not limited to backups). The update includes the following point:

5. Update IP validation checks to allow valid IPs such as 10.0.10.0 that were previously blocked.

Does anyone have an expanded definition of this issues that this caused? I am using an IP range of 10.0.1.* and am wondering if this has been contributing to my problems?

Thanks

It would be nice to know the full range of addresses that were blocked. 10.0.0.0 - 10.255.255.255.255 are all reserved for private addresses. Though I think if your address failed the validation check your NAS wouldn't work at all (would fail over to 192.168.168.168).

BTW, I use 10.0.0.X addresses with my Pro-6 and have no IP addressing problems.

i think the issue was specifically for ip-addresses that would be invalid in class c networks like .0 or .255 which can be valid addresses in either class b or a or anything other than /24.

example:

10.0.10.0/255.255.0.0 was blocked before, now its allowed.
10.0.10.0/255.255.255.0 should still be blocked though since its invalid.
