Transporting a ReadyNAS Ultra 6

Postby abhijeet » Sun Jul 08, 2012 2:37 pm

I have an Ultra 6, with all 6 drives in use currently. I am moving house and need to transport the NAS as well.
Is it OK to pack the NAS in the original packaging with the drives in place or should I remove the drives and transport them separately?

Thanks!

Putting the NAS with drives inside in the original packaging would be fine. I do suggest that before you move the NAS you ensure you have an up to date backup, at least of your important data. See Preventing Catastrophic Data Loss

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

I would also want to transport it in my vehicle rather than in a moving van. Just to be sure it was handled with care.
Remember - the NAS is not a backup plan.
