Moving from workgroup to domain

Postby clewis » Thu Jul 19, 2012 7:22 am

Have a readynas 1100 running 4.1.9 in workgroup mode. All users have a share that is private for them, and groups have shares that are for everyone in their group. Users with laptops use Offline File Synchronization so they can access their private files when off site.

Looking at moving all users over to the existing domain in our network. That means changing the readynas to domain mode. Question is - what will happen to my users ability to sync their files for offline access when we do this?

Firstly I'd suggest you make sure your backup is up to date particularly of the contents of the private home shares. You might want to take a look at this thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=60908

Regarding offline access, I'm not sure, it might depend on things like Group Policy settings for the Domain etc.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.
