Alerts Emails Not Being Triggered

Postby shockalot » Sun Jul 29, 2012 5:25 pm

I am in the process of expanding my ReadyNAS Ultra 6 with 3TB drives and putting the 2TB drives into my NV. Everything is going great, but I noticed I received email alerts when I removed a drive and inserted another into the NV. Great I want to know if a drive goes dead! But I noticed I wasn't getting any alert emails on my Ultra 6.

I went and checked the settings on the Ultra 6 and everything looked good. I am using the internal mail server and when I send a test message I receive it instantly. However, when when "bad things" happen like a disk being removed I don't get any emails. I have all of the options in my "Alert Events" menu checked.

Any ideas? Are there any log files I can check to see? I couldn't find anything relevant.

Thanks!

What version of RAIDiator on the Ultra 6?

Have you configured the NAS to use an email provider such as Gmail for sending email alerts?

Have you checked your Junk Mail/Spam folder?

Thanks for the fast reply!

I am running RAIDiator 4.2.21 on the Ultra 6.

I haven't tried using Gmail for sending the email alerts, because the test message on the Ultra 6 works great. I also get email messages for the Backup Jobs being completed. When I removed my drive, added another and the NAS started to resycn however I didn't receive any emails. Same thing if I disconnect the UPS, I don't get any alerts.

There is nothing in my junk mail or spam folder.

I don't know if this is possible or not, but is it possible that the NAS is "forgetting" to send the email alerts, rather than them getting blocked?

Thanks!

I'd suggest trying using e.g. Gmail and seeing if all alerts work then.

I recently discovered I was not receiving e-mail alerts from my NVX with 4.2.21. It was set to internal, and a test message appeared to be successfully sent, just never received. When I switched back to the gmail setting I thought it had been set for, the test message started coming through. I have not had any events that would have triggered an e-mail.
Remember - the NAS is not a backup plan.

Well I will be darned.

I setup the Ultra 6 to use GMail and I am starting to use my alerts.

I am glad this fixed it, but it is a little disappointed that the "Test Email Alert" button didn't do a good test. It said everything was working and I received the email alert test so I figured it was working.

To trigger a real alert I would unplug my UPS. This would trigger an alert which I would receive via GMail.

Thanks for all the help! I am glad it is working and I am looking forward to getting the email letting me know my resync is complete.
