NV+ 7 days to sync?

Postby cstark » Wed Aug 01, 2012 1:08 pm

I've got an NV+ here that had been running RAID-0 with 4 2TB drives as a mirror-backup device. I cleared out the volume and set it back up to run as RAID-5 as I'd like the fault tolerance in its new role. The sync has been going for a few days now, saying it's running 9.8 MB/s. Total ETA for the process will be ~7 days.

Is this to be expected? I've seen here it suggesting many hours, but not many days, but those posts were using smaller drives. Still, a week to build the array? Nothing going on during this, just letting it rebuild. But, 9.8 MB/s at 7 days does seem to equal about 6T.

the speed is low when the beginning of sysn, please wait for a moment, then check the speed.
It needs about 8 hours for RAID-5 with 2TB x4 drivers fully redundant on NV+.

What version of RAIDiator is on the device?

Thank you for your replies. I waited about 1.5 days before posting here and it was still going along at 9.8 MB/s. FWIW, I have 7 ReadyNAS devices ranging from these to some Pro's and a pair of 12-bay's by another maker. So, I'm not entirely new to things...

FWIW, it's running 4.1.8 and has now been going over 48 hours. In my log, I have:
Mon Jul 30 17:39:56 PDT 2012 Volume C successfully added
The current time on the device is Aug 1, 20:55:04

It has picked up the pace and is saying it's 58% done. Checking here, at one point it said it was at 34 Mb/s, then 20, then 11... now 82... So, the rate it lists is variable (as is the ETA then) but it's been going now as I said for 48 hours and then some. (Oh, now down to 16 MB/s). At this rate, we're still talking ~3-4 days.

It's got 4 identical Seagate ST32000542AS drives in there. Yes, these are on the HW Compatibility list for the NV+. Health page shows "OK" on status for all but Disk 4, it being listed as "Resync".

Not sure if this'd affect the time for the resync but there is a general performance issue with 4.1.8. Though I wouldn't recommend 4.1.9 due to the ownership issue.

A resync is needed to sync the drives sector by sector and it is normal with four disks installed in the NV+ for disk 4 to be shown as the disk in resync.
