How connect Duo to Ultra on network port 2

Postby Stixy73 » Sat Aug 04, 2012 2:17 am

Hi!

I just purchased a new ReadyNAS 2 Ultra and would like to connect my old Duo to the Ultra's second network port, making it act like a switch and just forward to Duo on the network. Is that even possible or do I need to buy a switch in order to establish such connection?

Best Regards

Get a switch. That way the Duo and Ultra 2 would both be on your network and accessible.

A good gigabit switch doesn't cost very much.

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

Here is the 5 bay version of the one I have. I am not trying to act as a shill for Netgear, but I had another brand that worked just fine with my NV+, but when I went to the NVX (32 bit x86) it would not allow the NVX to connect properly, so I had to replace it. I went all Netgear and got the GS108 and have not had any problems since. If you are in the U.S., this is a hard price to beat. In fact, I'm thinking of getting one of these for when I want to expand my network.
Remember - the NAS is not a backup plan.

Thanks for the answers guys. I'll follow your suggestion and get a GS105/8. I was only hoping this kind of setup was somehow possible to configure on the NAS … but apparently not.

Cheers
