Hard drives and Screws

Postby talkingduck » Sat Aug 18, 2012 10:04 am

I recently purchased a duo v2 and two 2TB WD greens. However I've got a problem with the screws.

It seems that if I want to install the second tray (right hand tray) with a hard drive the screws get in the way. What screws should I use? Should I just force it?

The Duo V2 did not come with screws.

Thanks

The screws you need should have come with the NAS, either in a ziplock bag stuck to the drive tray or a small ziplock bag in with the documentation etc. that came with the unit. If there weren't any screws included, or if there were and you have lost the screws give NetGear support a call. They can send you some for a small fee (the cost of shipping them, I think).

Screws were definitely not included I've checked the packaging again as well as checking if they've been taped to the trays. The manual (Installation guide) also doesn't list screws as part of the package contents. I can not find information anywhere about what screws that are required. If you sell a product it should at least list what's required, screws I would have thought would have been one of those things you just include. I was hoping to copy over my data this weekend and now I'm stuck looking for screws. Has anyone got a part number for the screws, size requirements, head size? I could at least then get the unit setup after a visit to PCWorld or Maplin. I don't really want to have to wait 5-7 days for the post.

Thanks, sorry for my rant, I know it's not your fault.

Give NetGear support a call. Numbers are here: {url]http://kbserver.netgear.com/kb_web_files/n101460.asp[/url]

The screws should be included but occasionally they are not (it's probably the most common item to be left out by mistake). Also occasionally people misplace screws in the (in some cases) few years between purchase and installing a disk in an empty drive bay.

The size is mentioned on the forum but it'd be easiest to get screws of the right size from NetGear. For unit with pre-installed disks the drives would already be screwed into the trays. Were any of the disks pre-installed? If so you could use just two screws per tray as a temporary measure. Not sure, but the screws in the rear of the unit might be the right size you might be able to borrow a few screws from there (again as a temporary measure).

Another option since it's a new purchase would be to contact your reseller and mention that the screws for the drive trays were not included and see if they'll accept an exchange for a new unit.
