Readynas Pro Pioneer not expanding [19143842]

Postby GingaNutz » Sun Aug 05, 2012 1:16 pm

Hi,

I have a pro pio which originally had 4x1.5 TB disks in it in xraid2, then I added a 5th 1.5TB and I gained all that space. Yesterday I added a 2TB expecting to get another 1.5TB (I understand how raid works, and I assumed that xraid 2 is basically raid 6 although I've not doule checked this). However the array spent 10 hours rebuilding itself to leave me with the same amount of space spread across all 6 disks. The ui claims it's allocated 1392 GB of each disk however the file system is only 4156GB.

I found some info about disabling snapshots but I have no such settings, I've unticked disable journaling, and spin down is disabled. I've tried rebooting it a few times with quota checking on and it's running the latest firmware (although it wasn't when I inserted the disk).

I've yet to be at a computer to ssh on and poke about to much but I guess this is down to the file system not being resized?

Thoughs?

Thanks!
Simon

The snapshot feature is not available on the Pioneer. You might not see the "Disable Journaling" option on the latest firmware either as that option is EOL'd.

You may wish to open a tech support case at my.netgear.com and attach your logs (Status > Logs > Download all logs) to the case. Please edit the thread title (i.e. subject of first post in thread to include your case number).

NB: A ReadyNas is not an excuse not to have a backup. Fire, theft, multiple disk failures, other hardware failure, floods, user negligence etc. can all result in loss of data.

Hmm ok, at one point I was getting snapshot errors via email but I just ignored them!

Ticket opened but it's out of warranty so I'm not sure how much help I'll get? Push comes to shove I can do it by hand but obviously I'd rather not :-)

They won't replace your hardware if you are out of warranty, but they should help with your expansion issue (if you have disks on the HCL).

So finally had time to get on it.

The array has resized:
Array Size : 5841669184 (5571.05 GiB 5981.87 GB)

However the file system has not:
/dev/c/c 4.1T

I presume if I just resize the ext4 by hand something will break somewhere? :D

Still waiting for netgear support as I only have hardware support I'm bottom of the queue :)

Then waiting on support is probably the best approach.

If you want to take matters into your own hands, you could backup your data and settings, do a factory default, and then restore everything.
