[DUO] Max. supported 2TB? Why and how can i use more

Postby ThAlex » Thu Jun 07, 2012 8:55 am

Hi,

i have a ReadyNAS Duo with RAIDiator 4.1.8. The maximum capacity of the hard discs is 2TB. I have 2x 2TB HDDs inside and because of the X-Raid I have 1853 GB space.

But I want to have more space! Why does it have the Limitation "Drives greater than 2TB are not supported." Why? Will it support greater Drives with RAIDiator 4.1.9? Or are other ways to support greater Drives?

Thanks
ThAlex

The larger drives require GPT, and the linux used in the Sparc-based NAS products doesn't do that. There is no work-around other than buy a newer NAS.

I don't expect Netgear will ever provide support for > 2TB drives on the Sparc platform.

The reason for the DUO not supporting 3TB drives is due to it being a SPARC unit. PapaBear was able to find and article about the limitation in this thread.
